The Peace and Positivity Foundation

Cedric Hal, a sophomore at Paul Quinn College has created a foundation entitled, Peace and Positivity. The goal of his foundation is to provide resources to under privileged families that need help. So far he has had a great turnout for the foundation.

Cedric thought of the idea ten cents for peace after attending an orientation during the summer. The video he watched at the presentation was about morals and values. After watching the video he asked himself, "Self how can I help my community?"

It was then that Cedric came up with the brilliant idea of donating ten cents for peace.

Every Friday when the college hosts its chapel, attendees are given the opportunity to donate ten cents or more to the cause.

This Friday he will be premiering the disbursement of donations to one family that needs the most help. Quinnites and other people that have contributed to the Peace and Positivity Foundation are extremely excited about this Friday November 19. "I think it's a great thing what Paul Quinn is doing to help its surrounding community,"  said Paul Quinn Freshman Jeremy Hunt.

Miss Paul Quinn College Coronation

Paul Quinn has been in Dallas since 1990. Producing servant leaders of change is the primary goal Paul Quinn has vowed to upkeep. Sticking to the Four L’s of Leadership and applying them is a must especially for the queen that has represented Paul Quinn College in its past, present and future.

According to SGA president, Patrick Hillard, “If you do not have a queen you can be proud of to represent your school, then how can you as a student feel proud to represent your school?” It is very imperative that we have a queen that represents Paul Quinn College.

Many people were very excited to find out who the new “Miss Paul Quinn” would be Thursday. This event was so memorable considering the large audience that attended and the atmosphere of the entire event.

When I first showed up, everyone’s attitude exhibited that of the vibrant balloons that decked the halls. Purple, black, and white was the theme colors for the whole ceremony. Black representing the struggle the college had to endure while relocating from Waco to Dallas, purple displaying the bountiful progress the college has and still is enduring, and finally white presenting the pureness the college is as a Christian Institution.

Denise Robinson, a sophomore at the college said that, “the event was very beautiful and well organized.” This was further proof of the impact the event had on its attendees.

Both alumni’s and students alike came to support the not yet unveiled “Miss Paul Quinn”. One of these special quests happened to be a former Miss PQC named Christy Dean. When asked what she recalled from her time running for Miss PQC in 2000-2001, she told me that the competition was, “So close there was no comfort in it.”

Other students that attended Paul Quinn during this time period had a lot of expectations from their school queen.

Paul Quinn College is known for Greatness.  President Michael Sorrell simply states that, “One of the things that help bring spirit and creates an oral of excitement is a queen.”
The ceremony ended off on a great note. Christina Mason was chosen to be forever apart of Paul Quinn’s history as Miss PQC.

The Importance Of Voting

Morals and justice have played a major part in starting this country. We see evidence of this in our constitution as well as in the everyday lives of today’s citizens. Life without morals and justice would be very unstructured and dangerous.

Our fore fathers pictured life filled with chaos and disorder without the constitution. This was one of the main reasons why they chose to create such a tremendous document.

In the text of the constitution, you can see the time and logic spent in each article to help the common good as seen in the bill of rights.

Without such amendments, we as a people would be torn (without unity) and subject to dictatorship. However, this is not the case with America “Home of the brave and Land of the Free”.  America is far stronger and wiser to falter.

America has several laws at both the state level and national level. Have you ever thought to ask yourself why we have so many laws? Laws are made to protect us from each other. Without laws, people would not do what is right. Instead wrongful actions would be acceptable in today’s society. Everything this country does they do for a reason.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary democracy is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

We all know that voting is very important. Voting determines who you want to represent you in your life. But have you ever thought why people do not vote?

Some people feel that their vote does not count. This is typically the reason why people choose to not vote.

In today's society it is crucial that we vote. Exercising our right to vote shows that we not only care but it also shows that we are politically conscious.

The 2010 Census showed that Texas population increased drastically as opposed to ten years ago. This means that there is more representation in the House of Representatives at the state level for the people.

Greater representation in the House of Representatives means more positions to be filled.

The elections that were held yesterday were not a great turnout for the democrats. The Republicans held the victory yesterday. Kraig Watkins, the democrat nominee for district attorney won yesterday as well.

Kraig Watkins is known for setting innocent people free from prison. The fact that he won yesterday has made many Dallas residents happy. However, many republicans feel otherwise.

Tension between the democrats and republicans have increased lately and it can be seen in days that have led up to the election yesterday.

The ABC news network showed that forty-nine percent of America's population supports the Tea Party and more than thirty percent of the supporters are males.

Of those supporters nearly all of them believed that government should play a lesser role in the lives of Americans.

So what do you think? Should government play a lesser role in peoples lives?
