School Vending Machines Subject to New Guidlines

According to a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, about $2.3 billion worth of beverages and snack foods are sold annually in schools nationwide. It is these foods that nutritionists say contribute to childhood obesity.

Since child obesity has more than tripled throughout the past 30 years, the Obama Administration is taking evasive action to prevent such incidents.

Some representatives of the food and beverage industries argue that, “Many of their products contribute to good nutrition and should not be banned”

However, whatever their case maybe, the proposed guidelines for this issue is expected to create a solution. Some foods to look forward to are baked foods versus fried foods, dried-roasted items and low sodium foods.

President Obama's Agenda: Investing in Young, Inquiring Minds

“So instead of subsidizing yesterday’s energy, let’s invest in tomorrow’s, we cannot win the future with a government of the past,” said President Obama at the State of the Union Address.

This is definitely true. We need to think differently and aim high. This is exactly what President Barack Obama is doing today.

He has stuck to his pledge of using the White House to honor achievers in science. The White House is hosting its 2nd Science Fair (Febr. 27, 2012).

At the event tonight they will be congratulating and awarding students like Hannah Wyman 11 and Aidan Dwyer a middle school student that have more invented more efficient ways and solutions of addressing the issues of the environment.

The White House is collaborating with a series of other fairs that are honoring awardees and leaders in “dozens of separate competitions and programs.”

Valentines A Major Trend?

People today, primarily in the teenage through late twenties age group, seem to be overly excited about tomorrow's theme. Evidence of this electrified state of mind is expressed in tweets and facebook posts. Stores plan for this occasion months in advance, while entertainment outlets display films related to this time. One individual defined valentines day as, "A time of year where love is intensified!" Whatever it may be, many expect some dose of affection.

Whatever, your activities may be for the rest of the week whether it involves a vacation or honeymoon, I pray that it is fun, safe and memorable.

Philanthropy

Philanthropy and philanthropic qualities is very important, especially in this society today. So many people go without daily in the United States. We as a nation need to pull together and stomp out the inequities of society.

We see organizations like Delta Sigma Theta Sorority & Peace & Positivity Foundation making a difference. We need to each share the same mission statement as them and follow in their lead!

A Snow Day In Dallas

Many students were excited Thursday from what some may consider as bad news. Bad news because with snow comes cold, accidents and a whole array of other problems.

But instead of looking at the bad, we should focus on the good. We all got a chance to play in the snow and for some, see snow for the very first time. But like how Venton Soders puts it, "It was fun while it lasted. Now its time to get on those books and start studying."

Don't we all agree? But before we get to studying, time needs to be spent to absorb the fun atmosphere that Dallas has to bring this weekend. We all know what fun I'm referring too. The hype and high anticipation of the superbowl XLV. Who are you rooting for,  the Greenbay Packers or the Pittsburgh Steelers? Black and Yellow vs. Green and Yellow!

THE QUINNITE NATION

Some people are familiar with the word Quinnite but do not know where the word is derived from. The word comes from being a student at Paul Quinn College. Every individual that is a Quinnite is automatically apart of the Quinnite Nation.

Many people may ask themselves and wonder what exactly is the Quinnite Nation? And others may respond to these people with answers such as, The Quinnite Nation is the movement taking place at Paul Quinn College. They may also say that the Quinnite Nation is a secret group on the campus. No matter what, many people will not know the answer to this question until they ask a Quinnite themselves.

The Quinnite nation is the entire Paul Quinn College community itself. This community consists of students that are taking that extra initiative to not only further their education but to also become leaders today to change their societies future tomorrow.

Many students throughout the past semesters have been fortunate to become apart of this unit and contribute to a greater cause. "The Reign of the Quinnite Nation" as I like to put it is really going to take this whole nation by storm. "Just like how University of Sacramento students do, we can be successful too", said future Quinnite Victor Enriquez yesterday while touring the campus (shown on right).

It is students like him that Paul Quinn College looks for to become a new addition to the team! It does not take much to become a resident of the Quinnite Nation. All students that are apart of the Quinnite Nation share some similar attributes, however they are all unique individually.

Some of these characteristics include being motivated, possessing strong spirituality, having a strong need to give back, and loving. The rest of the characteristics, student leaders are taught while attending the institution.

Values are also important to everyone in the Quinnite Nation because without them progress for changing our nation would be limited. The Quinnite Nation instills in each of its members values of integrity, service, leadership, and accountability. Without such values many outside distractions would be able to hinder our Quinnites minds and core.

The Quinnites follow the Four L's of Leadership:
1. Leave Places Better Than You Found Them
2.Lead From Wherever You Are
3. Love Something Greater Than You
4. Live A Life That Matters

The Quinnite Nation is really bridging the gap. If you would like to be apart of the Quinnite Nation or help aid them on their journey and path to greatness feel free to visit the Paul Quinn website.
